    Spinel

    Information About Spinel:

Contrary to popular belief, Spinel is NOT a synthetic stone. Until recently, spinel was a very obscure gemstone, and its reputation as a precious gem was smeared by a cheap synthetic stone that was also marketed as "Spinel", which was generally used in cheap junky jewelry.

Despite the unsavory and unfair reputation brought on by the synthetic spinel debacle, this gem is slowly gaining acceptance and popularity due to its extreme rarity and uncommon beauty.

Spinel is found in many parts of the world, most notably Burma, Thailand, U.S.A., Brazil, and Australia.

COMMON GEM COLORS: Generally red or pink, sometimes blue or green.

    HARDNESS ON MOH'S SCALE: 8

SHAPES FOR CUTTING: Suitable for all facet shapes, but most commonly cut to round or oval.
