Sphene is found in many parts of the world including Mexico, Canada, Burma, and Austria.

COMMON GEM COLORS: Usually yellow-brown to green, with red colorplay.

HARDNESS ON MOH'S SCALE: 5 to 5.5

SHAPES FOR CUTTING: In spite of its softness, Sphene is more suited to faceting than to polishing as a cabochon, due to its optical properties. Great care should be taken when wearing sphene jewelry, as it does scratch quite easily.
