    Lapis Lazuli

    Information About Lapis Lazuli:

This stone gets its name from the Persian word "lazhward" for "blue", and the Latin word "Lapis", which means stone; also the root source of our word "Lapidary".

Lapis Lazuli has been mined in Afghanistan since the earliest of times, but is also found in Burma, Siberia, and the east coast of the Americas.

Sometimes is found blended with rutilated quartz.

    COLOR: Blue

    HARDNESS ON MOH'S SCALE: 5.5

SHAPES FOR CUTTING: Suitable for faceting but generally lends itself better to polished cabochon shapes or beads. Due to its softness, it is also sometimes used for carving into figurines and stone face pendants.
