    Diamond

    Information About Diamond:

The name "diamond" is derived form the Greek word "adamas", which means "unconquerable".

Optical properties: Diamond has a very high dispersion rate, so different wavelengths of light are refracted differently, creating a strong prismatic display of colors.

Most diamonds are mined in South Africa, but can also be found in other parts of the world, most notably Russia and Australia.

COMMON GEM COLORS: Colorless in its purest form, but other color varieties such as "champagne", red, brown, blue, yellow, and black are becoming quite popular. Sometimes irradiated to manipulate color.

    HARDNESS ON MOH'S SCALE: 10

SHAPES FOR CUTTING: Suitable for all faceted shapes. Round is the classic shape but oval, marquis, and princess cut are very popular.
